Articles tagged Project / Lab Report
If you conduct a scientific experiment or undertake a piece of research, you’ll usually need to write up a corresponding project or lab report, to summarize the objective of your task, the methods you followed, the results you obtained, and the conclusions you drew from your work. Here we provide a sample of great templates for producing such reports, which include layout guidelines to help guide you through the process.

Physical Interactions of Simple Tools with JSC-1A Regolith Simulant
As part of the NASA IMPACT program to model mechanical interactions with bodies in space such as comets, asteroids, and other Near Earth Objects (NEOs), the Colorado School of Mines team is designing a motor stage apparatus to interact with JSC-1A regolith simulant surfaces. This initial study involved development and testing of a prototype motor stage apparatus which was used to drive three types of probes into JSC-1A surfaces while collecting force data under standard Earth atmospheric conditions. The probes used were a conical-tipped probe, a wedge-tipped probe, and an anchoring probe. Main goals of the prototype system were to acquire general force trends for each interaction, and to isolate the most important design features for a more-complex in-vacuum system. Our data revealed force interactions that were very small in magnitude—on the order of tenths of Newtons—and more complex than our simple stiff beam probe and mount model could accurately predict. Our results lead us to recommend a more complex experimental model that can accurately represent deflection in the probes while also allowing for better measurement of regolith movement near the tip of the probes. Specifically, we recommend the following design features for the in-vacuum system: a load cell capable of measuring at very low ranges (thousandths of Newtons), reliability of structural axis alignment between trials, a robust mounting system that can accommodate each different type of probe, and consistency of sample preparation between trials.

Final Project Report
Throughout the ECE Lab section we have learnt many electronics concepts and applied almost all of them directly or indirectly in our final lab project. Additionally, having taken away a lot from this course, we aimed to make a project that would challenge us academically and intellectually; for our final lab assignment, we made an autonomous line-following robot, that would follow a white line track using RedBot sensors, and would respond to audio cues from the environment using a microphone. In this report, we explain the use of each of the components that were used to make the final vehicle and the working of the vehicle itself.

What is the maximum altitude reached by a Superpressure balloon? Can we control the balloons altitude with an air pump?
A detailed report of findings on the altitudes which can be reached by super pressure balloons and how various factors and considerations affect this. Superpressure balloons are deployed and researched by various organisations including NASA, to solve technical limitations such as cell tower coverage as well as advancing fields of research. Balloons are used in planetary exploration, and weather prediction to teaching primary school physics. The versatile yet simple aerostat has been a valuable tool in many areas of engineering and their altitude ceiling is of great scientific interest. To solve the problem without the ability to physically reproduce the scenario, required mathematical models to be created as a means of simulating the effects of real world physics. A degree great enough to output an accurate and hence useful result without becoming too complex to be computable is the fine balance attempted to be created by this paper.
